Blog Post: Getting a Fleet Telematics-Ready for LEEO
By Brandt Wilson, Director of Telematics, LEEO Insurance
Every LEEO policy runs on telematics. That's a given on every account you place with us, so the real question for a broker isn't whether a fleet needs it, but how that fleet gets there. The answer depends on what it already has, and there are two clean paths. Either way, it's a straightforward step, not a barrier.
The Requirement, In Plain Terms
Every enrolled fleet needs both GPS and front-facing camera capabilities on each vehicle. The GPS provides active location and motion data: harsh braking, hard cornering, speeding. The front-facing camera adds what motion alone can't catch, like tailgating, running a red light, rolling a stop sign. It also supplies the footage that shows what actually happened. Both are required, and the requirement applies across all three of our verticals: Last Mile Delivery, Artisan Contractors, and NEMT.
The fleet supplies the equipment at its own cost through one of two paths.
Path One: Already Equipped
Plenty of fleets are already running telematics, and if they're using one of our approved providers, they simply connect what they have. They keep their existing hardware, keep the workflows their team already knows, and start qualifying for savings with no disruption. Underwriting sends a link to connect the existing account.
LEEO Approved Providers:
Samsara
Geotab
Azuga
Motive
Linxup
Verizon Connect
The one thing worth confirming with the client up front is the camera. If they're running GPS alone, they'll need to add front-facing camera capability to be fully connected. So when a client says they already have telematics, the useful follow-up question is whether that includes a camera, not just tracking.
Path Two: New to Telematics
For a fleet that isn't yet equipped or needs to fill the camera gap, LEEO refers them to our partner network, where they'll get exclusive discounts and tailored support. Our customer success team takes a hands-on approach to onboarding. It's a guided setup, not a cold handoff to a vendor. We point the fleet to the right equipment and walk them through getting it live.
The 30-Day Window
In both cases, fleets have 30 days from the policy effective date to establish connectivity. For an already-equipped fleet that's plenty of runway, since it’s really just linking an account. For a fleet starting fresh, it's worth getting the hardware decision moving early in that window so shipping and installation don't run up against the deadline.
Why Both Signals Matter
LEEO requires both because of a simple idea: data tells you what happened; video shows you why. GPS data surfaces coaching opportunities before incidents occur, and footage settles claims fairly when one does. Together they protect the fleet and the bottom line, which is the whole point of a telematics-based product.
Staying connected isn't just a requirement. It's what powers Savings for Safety, where fleets earn cashback credits at renewal based on accident avoidance and connectivity. So whichever path a fleet takes to get connected, they're plugging into a program that pays them back for operating safely.
